The first assignment of this course was the fashion news article, which consisted of choosing a current fashion topic to write about using the ‘inverted pyramid’ story structure. In addition, we had to create a byline with a fake name, and imitate the publication’s tone and layout as best as we could.
The second assignment of this course was the fashion feature article, which consisted of choosing a current fashion topic that has been relevant within the last month to write about using the ‘top and tailed’ structure. In addition, we had to create a byline with a fake name, and imitate the publication’s tone and layout as best as we could with at least three pictures.
The third assignment of this course was the catwalk review, which consisted of choosing a fashion show that occurred within the last month that the publication’s target audience would be interested in using the ‘top and tailed’ writing structure. In addition, we had to create a byline with a fake name, and imitate the publication’s tone and layout as best as we could with at least three images.
The fourth assignment of this course was the trend report, which consisted of choosing a current fashion trend that the publication’s target audience would be interested in using the ‘top and tailed’ writing structure. In addition, we had to create a byline with a fake name, and imitate the publication’s tone and layout as best as we could with many pictures to portray the trend.
The fifth assignment of this course was the who-wore-it-best article, which consisted of choosing at least two different celebrities wearing the same or similar outfits/trends/looks at the Oscars. In addition, we had to create a byline with a fake name, and imitate the publication’s tone and layout as best as we could with at least two pictures of the celebrities.
The sixth, and final, assignment of this course was the shopping page, which consisted of choosing garments to complete at least three full looks/outfits on people that your publication’s target audience would be interested in. In addition, we had to create a byline with a fake name, and imitate the publication’s tone and layout as best as we could with at least ten images of the products to portray them in a ‘shoppable’ format.
All of six of these assignments, which consist of the fashion news article, fashion feature article, catwalk report, trend report, who-wore-it-best article, and the shopping page assignment have molded me into such a better writer, and all around much more prepared to be a fashion professional in the near future.
